Nothing Stays the Same

I had lost my job.

It was fair enough. I was a union member. The lowest twenty percent of the union workers were lopped off, and it caught me. A new guy came in from Florida to take my spot (he had more seniority) and the next day he promptly took a disability leave. I had been replaced by…nothing.
